: The Ghaziabad police during an attempt to arrest a wanted criminal during an encounter on Friday was shot in the leg, officials said. The man that had been arrested was identified as Irfaan from Saroorpur in Meerut district. The accused had a cash reward of Rs.25, 000 that had been announced for revealing any information that could lead to his apprehension this February, the police also said. A motorcycle which did not have a number plate was asked to stop by the team of Loni police but instead of stopping the rider of the two wheeler opened fire at the police personal and sped away, they said. Immediately the police team flashed the message on wireless, sent it to all the police posts of the area, and cornered the accused within a short period. When the police team returned the fire, the suspect who was riding the bike was shot in the leg but the person who was riding pillion managed to escape, the police said. The suspect who was injured was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Mr. Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said. ]]>
