CHENNAI: 41 district Congress committee (DCC) presidents have in a show of strength supported former TNNCC Chief EVKS Elangovan and asked the Congress high command to remove from the post of Tamil Nadu Youth Congress president Vijay Ilanchezhian for filing police complaint against Elangovan. The 41 district chiefs had sent a memorandum on 27 August to party president Sonia Gandhi and in charge of party affairs in Tamil Nadu Mukul Wasnik. The district chiefs in the letter stated, Vijay Ilanchezhian could have explored the options within the party framework to redress his grievance instead of approaching the police with a complaint leading to filing of FIR against Elangovan and the other leaders of the party. They stated, Ilanchezhian must be sacked from the post he has been holding as he had brought disrepute to the party. Sources said, that the Anna Salai police earlier here on Wednesday registered an FIR against Elangovan, party spokesperson Gopanna, and a few others under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 352 (assault) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following a complaint lodged by Ilanchezhian. A source said, Ilanchezhian was alleged to have forced entry into a room in the Satyamoorthi Bhavan, reportedly seeking space for him as the State Youth Congress president, inside the State headquarters.]]>
