Hyderabad, Telangana, June 22: In a significant breakthrough, Afzalgunj Police successfully apprehended the kingpin of an inter-state attention diversion gang, Jaya Kumar (50), a native of Raichur, Karnataka, in connection with Crime No. 177/2025 U/s. 318(4), 303(2) BNS.
The gang, operating across states, lured unsuspecting victims by offering to sell original gold at half price, only to deceive them after collecting large amounts of cash. Based on a complaint filed by a real estate businessman from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, who was duped of ₹65 lakhs in a fraudulent gold deal, the police launched an intensive investigation.
The victim had been contacted over the phone by the accused, who posed as gold sellers and set up multiple meetings before delivering a fake package containing sarees and stones instead of gold at Putlibowli X Road, Afzalgunj.
