Hyderabad: A Sudan passenger was detained by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials of Hyderabad airport customs on Saturday when the passenger was trying to smuggle 1.79 kg of gold worth Rs.58.21 lakh.
The woman passenger reached Hyderabad on Emirates flight, No. EK 524 from Dubai. When the passenger was leaving the airport through the green channel, she was intercepted by the officers of the Air Intelligence Unit and was detained for an examination. On conducting the examination on her hand baggage, the officials recovered 15 gold bars that were wrapped with aluminum foil and black adhesive tape.
The passenger had concealed the gold bars in three polythene covers and placed in her hand baggage. The woman was a frequent flyer between Dubai and Hyderabad in the past three months, the officials said.
