Tamil Nadu, Madurai: Across the country, on an all-India level, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has upgraded six airports, including Madurai, based on studies indicating increased air services and passenger arrivals. The Central Civil Aviation Department has announced that Madurai Airport will be reclassified from ABT (Air Passenger Excise Tax) Class 3 to Class 2. Along with Madurai, the airports in Vijayawada, Bhopal, Agartala, Udaipur, and Surat have also been upgraded from Class 3 to Class 2.
