The Kerala Police said screen sharing applications have emerged as a novel avenue for stealing account holder data. Scammers, posing as bank representatives or other institutions, coerce customers into downloading specific apps. These fraudulent links are often sent via messages. Should you fall prey to downloading counterfeit apps resembling legitimate bank software, the scam involves extracting the account holder’s information through screen sharing. Once you’ve installed and launched such applications granting screen sharing capabilities, your phone’s data falls into the hands of fraudsters. It’s important to note that legitimate banks or authorized financial institutions will never request personal information over the phone. Therefore, it’s crucial to disregard phone calls, SMS messages, and emails urging you to disclose credit card details, including their expiration date, CVC, OTP, and PIN numbers to anyone.
