VISAKHAPATNAM: The District police have launched a new concept, which comprises of all women police team on Thursday. The team, by the name Sthree Shakthi comprises of 35 members. The team comprises of designations such as ASIs, head constables, police constables and home guards. They have been provided with 25 vehicles that include five four-wheelers. The other vehicles are motorcycles and scooters. Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police AP Mr. Thakur said this is a 35 member team. To begin with the vehicles provided to the team are 25, 5 four wheelers and the balance are motorcycles and scooters. This has been introduced mainly for the protection of women. Issues relating to women can be brought to their notice and they will take action accordingly. From drivers to police personnel, everyone is a woman. The DGP said, to ensure safety to the women who are working in the various workplaces is our main concern in introducing this police team. Training has been provided to all the police constables to drive cars, to swim, to act in self-defense and communication skills have been provided to the personal for a month. All the personal will be deployed on important junctions of the city. They are given the task to handle women-related issues which include woman harassment and to deal with trouble creators. The prescribed uniform for the police team will be blue shirts and khaki trousers. ]]>
