Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Police has launched a special operation ‘Operation Parivartan’ to curb cannabis cultivation in the state. Andhra Pradesh Police, in collaboration with the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) in Visakhapatnam, led the operation.
Nearly two lakh kilograms of processed cannabis were recently seized by the police while being sent to various places for sale after harvest. And the police will soon destroy two lakh kilos of cannabis worth Rs.500 crore.
From November 2021 to February 2022, Andhra Pradesh police destroyed 8,500 acres of cannabis plants pre-harvest. A total of 1,500 people were arrested under Operation Parivartan. Of these, 562 were from other states. State DGP Mr. Damodar Gautam Sawang IPS said, “While the primary objective is to find and destroy the cannabis crop, the operation is also aimed at transforming the indigenous people involved in the production.”
