Visakhapatnam: Through comprehensive efforts, the police in the Visakhapatnam Range have made significant strides in combating the illegal cultivation and trade of Ganja. Strengthened security measures, such as setting up check posts, dynamic vehicle checking systems, deploying Special NDPS Beats at 34 hotspots with advanced technology and sniffer dogs, and forming District Anti-Narcotic Taskforce Cells, have delivered impressive results over the past three years. Drug Disposal Committees have disposed of approximately 3 lakh kg of seized Ganja across the state. A total of 27 special teams have been created to address the Ganja issue and work towards a drug-free region.
As part of a large-scale awareness campaign aimed at educating youth about the dangers of drug abuse, the innovative program SANKALPAM was launched at Miracle Engineering College in Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district.
Key Achievements:
1,378 cases registered and 3,890 individuals arrested.
Around 2 lakh kg of Ganja seized.
10,000 acres of Ganja crops destroyed in the Alluri Seetharama Raju District over the last three seasons.
8,585 farmers benefited from the distribution of alternative crops.
650 awareness campaigns conducted, reaching 35,000 people, emphasizing the dangers of Ganja and promoting alternative livelihoods.
