North & Middle Andaman: In a decisive action on 05.02.2024, the vigilant team at Police Station Billiground responded to credible intelligence regarding the arrival of an individual at Billiground Bazaar for the illicit trade of venison. Led by SI MV Shiju Kumar, SHO Police Station Billiground, SI MJ Indrajit I/C OP Betapur, HC Amrita Bawali, PCs Anand Kumar, and Mohd Mustafa, the operation successfully intercepted the suspect.
The suspect, identified as Shri Ajeet Toppo, was seen approaching the Police booth with a shoulder bag. The team became suspicious when they noticed his hesitation and hasty retreat upon spotting the police. A thorough search of the shoulder bag revealed wildlife-protected red meat, suspected to be venison.
During interrogation, Ajeet Toppo, aged 35, a Private Worker residing at Bamboo Nallah, Webi, Mayabunder, confessed to possessing the venison meat. Given the prima facie evidence and the commission of a cognizable offence under U/s 50/51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, SI MV Shiju Kumar, SHO Police Station Billiground confiscated the seized meat, weighing 12 kg.
The accused was apprehended following all necessary procedures. Immediate notification of the meat seizure was forwarded to Range Officer Betapur, and subsequently, both the confiscated meat and the arrested individual were handed over to forest officials for further necessary action.
The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Rahul Nair IPS, SDPO Rangat, and the overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
