Nainital: On the 19th of May, 2023, the plaintiff took decisive action by filing a written Tahrir at Kotwali Haldwani, bringing to light a distressing incident of extortion. According to the complaint, the plaintiff was coerced into surrendering a staggering sum of one lakh rupees. The perpetrators accomplished this malicious act by creating a video that was intentionally left incomplete, wherein they portrayed themselves as members of a vigilance team. Exploiting the power of social media, they disseminated the video widely, thereby instilling fear and dread in the plaintiff’s heart by issuing threats of dire consequences, including the potential loss of life.

Swift to respond, the local police force sprang into action and launched a relentless investigation into the matter. Their efforts bore fruit, as they managed to apprehend three individuals who were believed to be directly involved in the extortion scheme. The culprits were caught red-handed in possession of the ill-gotten money, which was promptly recovered. Furthermore, the vehicle that was utilized during the commission of the crime was also seized, serving as a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
