Bengaluru : Parappana Agrahara Central Jail won the first place in the All India Jail Conference in the category of food supply and hygiene competition for inmates in prisons. Chief Superintendent of Parappana Agrahara Central Jail Ramesh received the award from the Governor of Gujarat at the closing ceremony of the 6th All India Prisons Conference held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Friday by The Union Home Ministry.
A total of 1,319 prisons of various states and union territories of the country participated in the three-day conference organized by the Central Home Department from September 4. Parappana Agrahara Central Jail of the State Prisons and Correctional Services Department proposed the ‘Jail Hygiene and Good Quality Food ( Food ) Competition’. Similarly, the members of the conference visited and inspected the Parappa Agrahara Central Jail before the program. According to the officials, based on the report of this committee, Parappana Agrahara Central Jail got the first position, Visakha Pattanam Central Jail in Andhra Pradesh and Pullalu Central Jail in Tamil Nadu got the second and third positions respectively.
Parappana agrahara , the largest central jail in the state , has 5,200 inmates. It was certified by the Food Safety and Security Authority of India on 4 June 2021 with a 4 star rating for food quality and cleanliness. For the first time, Parappana Agrahara Central Jail received the award. Apart from this, 8 central prisons of the state have also received 4 star rating certificate, the Prisons Department said in a release.
