Bengaluru: Bengaluru Traffic Police, which is implementing one or the other type of reform measures to alleviate the increasing traffic congestion in the city, has now imposed a ban on parking near schools.
Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. M.A. Saleem, who has informed about this, has proposed to ban the movement of school buses after 8.30 in the morning. He directed the staff to fine school buses that drop students near schools after 8.15 am and park there. No school vehicles are allowed to park near schools after 8.30 am. A fine will be payable if stopped, the release said.
We have already instructed the school management to start the classes early. The Traffic Police Department enforces “Dedicated Carriageway” and “Safe Route” to ensure children go to school safely. Parents will be assigned entry and exit to pick and drop children to school. Parents can take their children to and from school from that designated area. Parents should drive from the designated entry point and leave the children at the playground and return to the exit point. He said that this will bring the problem of parking of parents’ vehicles on the road and causing traffic under control.
Many times in the past school buses would park outside their respective schools throughout the day until dropping students home, thereby occupying a portion of the road for school vehicles. This causes annoyance to passengers and other motorists. Other areas including Residency Road, Brigade Road to Richmond Road flyover, HSR layout have been identified as such problem areas. A traffic police official said safe routes are currently being reinstated in schools and though this model existed earlier, it was not strictly enforced.
Traffic police have issued strict instructions to schools to park buses and vans in their grounds.
