Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a significant step towards strengthening transparency, accountability, and efficiency in policing, Tirunelveli City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Manivannan, IPS, on January 27, 2026, distributed 10 body-worn camera devices to police officers and constables actively engaged in patrolling, traffic regulation, and vehicle checking duties across the city.
The body-worn cameras have been allocated to personnel from eight Law and Order Police Stations and two Traffic Police Stations within Tirunelveli city limits. These modern devices are aimed at recording real-time interactions during police duties, especially vehicle checks and patrol operations, thereby ensuring greater transparency in day-to-day policing.
Tirunelveli City Deputy Commissioners of Police Dr. C. Madhan, IPS (West) and V. Vinoth Santharam (East) were present during the distribution ceremony and appreciated the initiative, highlighting its importance in enhancing public trust and professional conduct.
Speaking on the occasion, the Police Commissioner stated that the body-worn cameras would play a crucial role in documenting incidents, preventing misunderstandings, and providing reliable evidence during investigations and inquiries. The recorded footage is expected to assist police personnel during legal proceedings and help in the fair resolution of complaints.
This initiative reflects the Tirunelveli City Police’s commitment to adopting technology-driven policing methods to ensure effective law enforcement, improved service delivery, and strengthened public confidence in the police system.
