West Bengal, Purba Bardhaman: The East Burdwan Police, as part of the Safe Drive Save Life initiative, successfully organized the “Burdwan Marathon” today, an event aimed at promoting road safety awareness and encouraging community participation in fitness activities. The marathon covered a 5-kilometer route, beginning from Ullas and concluding at Burdwan Municipality School.
This event was made possible through a collaborative effort involving Magnus Global School and several local sports enthusiasts, who played a crucial role in organizing and facilitating the marathon. Their involvement helped create an engaging and well-structured race, drawing interest from runners of all ages and backgrounds.
A remarkable 320 participants competed in the marathon, showcasing an impressive level of enthusiasm and sportsmanship. While a significant number of runners hailed from Burdwan itself, the event also attracted participants from different parts of the country, including the states of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. This diverse participation highlighted the growing reputation of the Burdwan Marathon beyond district boundaries.
A particularly heartwarming aspect of this year’s marathon was the participation of 16 children, who took on the challenge with great zeal. Their involvement served as an inspiration to many and reinforced the importance of nurturing a culture of sportsmanship and physical fitness from an early age.
The winners were felicitated in a grand prize distribution ceremony, where the District Magistrate, the Superintendent of Police, and local Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were present to hand over the prize money and congratulate the top performers. Their presence not only added prestige to the event but also emphasized the administration’s commitment to fostering sports and community engagement.
The Burdwan Marathon stands as a testament to the collective effort of the district administration, local institutions, and enthusiastic participants, successfully merging the messages of road safety, fitness, and unity into a single, impactful event.
