Cachar, Assam | June 12, 2025: In a major breakthrough in the war against narcotics, the Assam Police seized illegal drugs worth a staggering ₹45 crore in two back-to-back anti-narcotics operations conducted in Cachar district. The coordinated efforts led to the arrest of four individuals and the confiscation of approximately 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets, delivering a substantial blow to the illicit drug trade in the region.
According to senior police officials, the Cachar Police acted swiftly based on specific and credible intelligence inputs, conducting meticulously planned raids that uncovered a vast cache of narcotics. The seized Yaba tablets—commonly known as “party pills” and notorious for their potent mix of methamphetamine and caffeine—were intended for wide-scale distribution across northeastern states and possibly beyond.
The operations underscore the efficient intelligence-gathering and execution capabilities of Assam Police. Investigators believe this haul is linked to a larger network operating across state and international borders, with possible connections to drug cartels active in neighboring regions.
In the wake of the operation, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to commend the Assam Police for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the grip of narcotics. He wrote:
“Drugs worth ₹45 crore recovered in two successful anti-narcotics operations! Cachar Police seized 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets in consecutive operations based on credible intelligence. A strong blow to the drug mafia.”
The Chief Minister also reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and emphasized that the fight to protect Assam’s youth and future generations from the menace of drugs will continue with full force.
This seizure follows a series of aggressive measures taken by the Assam government in recent years to tackle the growing challenge of narcotics trafficking. Officials have confirmed that the arrested individuals are being interrogated, and further arrests and revelations about the network’s structure are expected.
The operations reflect the growing cooperation between intelligence wings, local enforcement units, and anti-narcotics squads, showcasing Assam as a determined front-runner in India’s ongoing fight against drugs.
