Varanasi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody an Inspector of Post serving in the North Division of Varanasi Cantonment (UP) following allegations of corruption. The accused was reportedly caught red-handed while soliciting a bribe amounting to Rs. 10,000 from a complainant. This incident prompted the CBI to launch an investigation, which was officially initiated on the 4th of June 2024.
The case centers on the accused Inspector’s purported demand for a bribe in exchange for influencing the complainant’s posting to their original or previously assigned location. The complainant alleged that the accused insisted on the payment of Rs. 10,000 to expedite the desired posting. Acting upon this complaint, the CBI orchestrated a meticulously planned operation, culminating in the apprehension of the accused while accepting the bribe.
In addition to the arrest, the CBI conducted thorough searches at the residential premises of the accused situated in Varanasi. These searches aimed to gather further evidence pertinent to the ongoing investigation. At present, the investigation is in progress as authorities delve deeper into the matter to uncover any potential accomplices or further evidence of wrongdoing.
