<![CDATA[Shimla: The BI raided Doordarshan's Shimla office on Friday and sealed it, after getting complaints of officials indulging in favouritism and embezzling money. In spite of the BI action, no FIR has been registered. Though no BI official was willing to speak to journalists, an inspector posted in Shimla police's ID wing said a case would be registered if anything was found suspcious. The inspector, Dev Kumar Negi, added that the raid was conducted by an eight-member BI team around 11 am on the basis of several complaints from outsiders and employees. He said there were allegations made on Doordarshan Shimla staff that they were giving chance to only their favourites to perform or talk on their shows, while many others were not being given a chance for long. Another allegation was made that many artists, talkers, readers and others who worked for Doordarshan on invitation or voluntarily were not being paid. "It has also been alleged that if a payment was eventually made, staffers would ask the person to giv them some portion of the money," Negi added. Sources said that Doordharshan Shimla officials could also be booked for misrepresenting history- and reality-based serials. A talker anonymity told TOI that after he gave a talk on the channel, he was given a cheque for that, but a Doosharshan staff member asked him to return 30% of the amount. "Now, BI has sealed the office in which the employees, data, documents and files cannot move out. Nobody can enter the office except for BI officials," Negi said.]]>
