The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed five separate cases against multiple individuals, including former General Engineers (G.Es), Assistant General Engineers (A.G.Es), and Junior Engineers (J.E.s) of MES Jabalpur, along with private firms. The cases involve alleged wrongdoings that resulted in a loss of approximately Rs.16.24 crore to the government exchequer.
According to the allegations, the Garrison Engineer (East), MES, Jabalpur, granted approximately 59 contracts to various private firms for Civil, Electrical & Mechanical, and other works in Defense Offices/Residential Complexes during the financial years 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23. The accused purportedly accepted unusually low rates from the contractors, which were impractical. Moreover, it was claimed that these private firms received payments of around Rs.16.24 crore without actually executing any work on-site, allegedly in collusion with public servants.
The investigation also pointed out that the said public servants made false entries in the Measurement Books, and supervisory officers approved the contractors’ bills without conducting necessary verifications. In connection with the investigation, searches were carried out at approximately 12 locations, including Jabalpur, Jodhpur, Prayagraj, and Shillong, leading to the discovery of incriminating documents. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will follow.
