Chennai: The Chennai Metropolitan Police Commissioner personally congratulated the 5 female constables who have been performing well in the Chennai Metropolitan Police and Cavalry Division and presented them with rewards and certificates.
The Chennai Cavalry was started in 1780 by the Governor of Chennai, Mr. William Langan, and was used for his defense work. The horses in the army have been used by the Chennai Superintendent of Police, Mr. Walter Grant, since 1800, for the Chennai Police. From 1926 onwards, the Chennai Police Cavalry was started as a separate unit under the command of a Sergeant, and the Chennai Police Patrol was carried out. At present, the Chennai Metropolitan Police Motor Vehicle Division, under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner, headed by the Inspector of Police (Headquarters) is operating in the Chennai Metropolitan Police Cavalry Egmore.
The main task of the Chennai Metropolitan Police Cavalry is to carry out intensive patrolling of the beach area daily in the morning and evening. Also, law and order protection work, Republic Day, and Independence Day team class.
The task of controlling the crowds during the festive season is being carried out by the government team and the police in the event of the decoration team class, the decoration team class of important personalities, and other security work.
Currently, the Chennai Metropolitan Police Cavalry is operating with 27 horses. The 27 horses are under the control of the police and are doing various tasks including patrolling with the police. The division has 1 Assistant Inspector, 25 male guards, and 5 female guards maintaining and working on the 27 horses.
The female constables of the cavalry were Mrs. M. Jasmine, Ms. T.Punitha, Ms. R. Malvika, Ms. T. Punitha, and Ms. C. Mahalakshmi. Patrols are underway. Thus, they have received the praise of the public and are doing their job well with great enthusiasm and inspiration.
Also, in the year 2020, female constable Ms. P. Sukanya participated in the All India competition for the 38th All India Police Cavalry Games 2022 and got the 2nd prize. Ms. P. Sukanya is now also training hard with the horse for the 39th All India Police Cavalry Games 2022.
Chennai Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mr. Sankar Jiwal IPS, on 5.7.2022 personally invited 5 female constables Mrs. M. Jasmine, Ms. T.Punitha, Ms. R. Malvika, Ms. T. Punitha, and Ms. C. Mahalakshmi who are serving in the Chennai Metropolitan Police and cavalry, and rewarded them.
