Chennai: Commissioner of Police Mr. Shankar Jiwal IPS spoke to students in Chennai on Thursday after inaugurating a Career Guidance Center for backward children to pass competitive exams including NEET and JEE.
The center offers free coaching to 100 children to crack competitive exams
Greater Chennai Police has set up a Career Guidance Center here at Arumbakkam to train poor boys and girls for competitive examinations including NEET and JEE. The facility was set up in collaboration with NGOs and corporate companies.
The city police runs 112 boys and girls clubs and runs various welfare programs for children from socially and economically backward areas to prevent them from falling into bad ways.
Police Commissioner Mr. Shankar Jiwal IPS inaugurated the center. It is an extension unit under the auspices of the HCL Foundation focusing on education with the support of the Don Bosco Anbu Illam-Hope Foundation.
The center was set up to guide poor candidates for TNPSC, UPSC and other competitive examinations and to provide top class affordable coaching.
More than 100 candidates will benefit annually from this initiative and a total of 50 lakh has been spent along with the support of the Greater Chennai Corporation. The center aims to improve students’ academic success and encourage those who have realized their full potential. The center offers state-of-the-art free coaching, weekly mock tests, bilingual classes and bi-monthly guest lectures, according to a press release.
The commissioner launched the “Excellence Sports Bus”, which is funded by HCL to ensure safe travel to other locations and proper sports facilities for athletes and vulnerable children attending public schools.
