Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore, March 11, 2025 – The Cyber Crime Police in Coimbatore has arrested a man involved in an online investment scam that duped a city-based woman out of Rs.8.65 lakh.
According to the police, the accused, N. Ramachandran (37), son of Nallusamy, was apprehended in Panaji, Goa. He was residing at Hostel Days, near Mahalakshmi Temple Road, opposite Axis Bank, Panaji – 403001.
Case Details
The victim, a 50-year-old woman from Singanallur, Coimbatore, received a WhatsApp message on October 31, 2024, promoting a lucrative investment plan. Upon inquiring, the fraudster assured her of high returns through trading and even shared fabricated receipts to gain her trust.
Believing the scheme to be genuine, the woman transferred Rs.8,65,000/- in multiple transactions to the bank account provided by the accused. However, when she attempted to withdraw her profits, she was informed that her funds were “locked” and that she needed to invest more to access them. Realizing she had been scammed, she immediately lodged a complaint through the online cybercrime portal and later filed an official complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Coimbatore.
Legal Action
Following an investigation, the police registered the case under Crime No. 43/2025, invoking Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66D of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008, which deal with cheating and online fraud.
Authorities tracked down the accused in Goa and arrested him. Further investigations are underway to identify any potential accomplices and recover the defrauded amount.

The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant against online investment scams and refrain from transferring money to unknown individuals or accounts. They advise verifying investment schemes through official sources before making any financial commitments.
