Coimbatore: The Rural Police have taken into custody the 4 persons who were indulging in the harassing and blackmailing of a college student and in addition also have initiated steps to put the provisions of the Goondas Act on the arrested accused.
The police have identified the arrested accused as K. Thirunavukkarasu (27) from Makkinampatti, N. Sabarirajan (25) alies Rishwanth from MGR Nagar, N. Sathish (29) from Suleeswaranpatti and T. Vasanthakumar (24) from Pakkothipalayam, near Pollachi. The arrests were made based on a complaint filed by a 19-year-old college student. One of the accused, Thirunavukkarasu, who was avoiding arrest for several days, was apprehended on Tuesday.
The police have taken the decision to include the provisions of the Goondas Act on the accused as the four were involved in harassing and blackmailing several women and girls in similar manner. Another reason is that the accused will have to be behind bars for a longer period. The punishment will be more as this provision is included. The police have found videos of several women and girls from the mobile phones of the accused. One victim has approached the police and has initiated a case against the accused. This has led to their arrests.
In addition to this the rural police have made an appeal to the other victims of the gang to lodge complaints against the accused and have assured that their whereabouts would be maintained confidential. The smart phones that have been seized from the accused, Thirunavukkarasu will also be examined by the police and to retrieve the erased data, it has been given to a Government laboratory in Chennai.
