Delhi: According to police, a 63-year-old individual was reportedly swindled of Rs. 2.25 crore by two individuals who promised him a seat in the Rajya Sabha. One suspect has been apprehended, while the other is under police custody. The con artists allegedly falsified the President of India’s signature to gain the victim’s confidence. Although the complainant remains unnamed, authorities disclosed that he is a social worker. The incident surfaced on April 25 when the victim detained one of the alleged perpetrators at a banquet hall in Adhchini, subsequently alerting the police and filing a report at the Kishangarh police station. Detailing the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Rohit Meena revealed that the victim encountered Nanak Dass at a residence in Vithal Bhai Patel House, a locality known for housing politicians. Dass, identified as the head priest of a temple in Kishangarh, introduced the victim to Naveen Kumar, who posed as a presidential protocol officer. The trio frequently convened at Vithal Bhai Patel House, Defense Colony, and Kishangarh, where the suspects convinced the victim that his nomination for a Rajya Sabha membership was underway. To bolster their credibility, the suspects presented a birthday letter purportedly from the President, featuring a forged letterhead. Subsequently, they demanded Rs. 5 crore from the victim to secure the seat, of which he paid Rs. 1.25 crore to Kumar and Rs. 1 crore to Dass. After receiving the funds, the suspects severed communication with the victim. Upon realizing the deception, the victim lured the suspects to the Adhchini banquet hall on the pretext of finalizing the payment, where he managed to restrain Kumar and notified the authorities. Further investigations led to the arrest of Dass in Delhi, with both individuals currently undergoing interrogation.
