Gadag: In Gadag district, an extensive special operation was launched across all police stations to enforce compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), which was enacted in 2003. This operation aimed to raise public awareness about the provisions and importance of the COTPA Act in controlling the sale and consumption of tobacco products. As part of the initiative, authorities took stringent action against individuals and businesses found to be violating the Act by selling tobacco products in prohibited areas or to minors, or without adhering to the specified guidelines. The primary goal of this operation was not only to penalize offenders but also to educate the public and sellers about the harmful effects of tobacco and the legal consequences of non-compliance with the regulations set forth by the COTPA Act. This district-wide campaign reflects a broader effort to reduce the public health risks associated with tobacco use and ensure a tobacco-free environment, particularly in areas such as educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and other public spaces where tobacco consumption and sales are strictly prohibited.
