Ariyalur: Velmurugan (33/23), the son of Manivel from Alavai village in the Udayarpalayam circle of Ariyalur district, along with Anupriya, was involved in the gruesome incident on 29.10.2023. They hacked Suresh, Anupriya’s husband from Vadakadal Melet Street, to death with a sickle and subsequently concealed the body in a gunnybag. Transporting the body on a two-wheeler, they hid it in a cashew forest owned by the forest department near the Venmankondan junction. The next morning, Velmurugan returned to the location and set Suresh’s body ablaze using petrol. A case was filed at the Wodiarpalayam Police Station on 30.10.2023, leading to the arrest of both suspects on 06.11.2023. Currently, Velmurugan is held in Trichy Central Jail, while Anupriya is in Trichy Women’s Jail.
In response to the recommendation by Mr. A. Thanabalan, District Police Inspector of Udayarpalayam, to take action against Velmurugan for burning the body in a public place, causing public panic, and accepting the recommendation of Mr. K. Perozhan Abdullah, District Superintendent of Police in Ariyalur, Ariyalur District Collector Mrs. J. Anni Mary Swarna, IAS, issued an order on 02.12.2023 to remand Velmurugan under the Anti-Hooliganism Act. Copies of this order were subsequently provided to the Trichy Central Jail Officer today.
