<![CDATA[More than 60 per cent teenage girls are falling victims of cyber crime and the offenders continue to go scot free said Cyber Society of India (CSI) president Rajendran here on 6 August Saturday. Quoting a recent report he said that cyber crimes are increasing at the rate of 22 per cent, it is 12 per cent for normal offences, he said at a one-day workshop on ‘Cyber Crimes: Guard yourself in cyber space,’ organized at Anna University in Chennai. However, he regretted that the conviction rate in cyber crimes remain at a paltry 5 percent as against 10 percent in other offences. Young girls get attracted towards social media and post their photos, which can be easily misused, he added. Recalling his own experience of facing online fraud, said “I went to Hyderabad recently and stayed in luxury hotel with WiFi facility. I made a transaction using the hotel’s network. At around 11.48 pm, I got an SMS alert about the failed transaction attempt twice. So, it’s a lesson for people not to do banking transaction using public WiFi connections”, JN Misra CEO, Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF), Mumbai. Though on one side detection of cyber offenses has been improving but on the other side the offenders are improving too, he said. He advised the public to immediately report about cyber crime to the concerned authorities without choosing to ignore them.
