Surat City: In Surat City, a serious case unfolded involving the accused, Guruprasad Guruvaiyahanaidu Guruappanaidu Kovi (Naidu). Initially, he established contact with the complainant by befriending him through social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp. Over time, he built a level of trust, during which he managed to obtain explicit and obscene photographs of the complainant. Using these compromising images, the accused began a cycle of harassment and blackmail.
Guruprasad systematically distributed these intimate images within the complainant’s circle of relatives and friends, aiming to publicly humiliate and tarnish the complainant’s personal and social reputation. To further increase the emotional and psychological pressure, he issued threats to defame the complainant, warning that if the demands were not met, the situation would escalate, causing even greater harm to the complainant’s standing within his community.
In addition to these threats, the accused forced the complainant to engage in video calls during which he was coerced into speaking vulgarities and making obscene statements. This form of control and exploitation added another layer of abuse, contributing to the emotional and mental distress suffered by the victim.
Capitalizing on the complainant’s fear of public disgrace, the accused extorted a substantial sum of Rs. 1,89,63,561/-. The extortion was conducted through a combination of psychological manipulation and direct threats, causing significant financial loss to the complainant.
However, following the victim’s formal complaint, the Surat city cybercrime cell acted swiftly. Within hours of the report being lodged, they were able to track the accused to Chennai. Guruprasad had attempted to evade capture by disguising himself as a local resident. Despite this, the cybercrime cell successfully apprehended him, bringing an end to his manipulative and criminal activities. The case highlights both the dangers of online exploitation and the effectiveness of prompt law enforcement action.
