Sambalpur: The Sambalpur District Police successfully intercepted and arrested a gang of five individuals who were plotting a dacoity (armed robbery) on National Highway 53 (NH-53) during the night of September 12th and 13th, 2024. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police foiled the plan just as the gang was preparing to execute the crime. The law enforcement team conducted a swift operation and apprehended the accused persons before they could carry out their illicit activities.
During the arrest, the police seized several weapons and items that were to be used in the robbery, including a country-made pistol, a deadly sharp-edged weapon locally known as a bhujali, two heavy iron rods likely intended to force entry or threaten victims, and two packets of chili powder—presumably intended for use as a deterrent or to disable victims during the crime.
This operation was linked to Burla Police Station Case No. 430 of 2024, and further investigation revealed that the arrested individuals have been involved in numerous criminal activities across various police jurisdictions in Sambalpur district. Their criminal record includes participation in multiple cases of theft, robbery, and other serious offenses.
The swift action of the Sambalpur Police has not only prevented a major crime from occurring but has also taken a notorious gang off the streets, contributing to improved safety and security in the region.
