Delhi: Deepak Pahal, popularly known as ‘Boxer’, who is considered one of Delhi’s most wanted gangsters, was apprehended by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police with the help of the FBI in Mexico. This marks the first instance of the Delhi Police catching a gangster outside of India.
Pahal had been on the run since September of last year, having escaped while out on parole after being incarcerated for his involvement in a murder case. He was reportedly involved in the killing of a North Delhi-based realtor, Amit Gupta, who was shot multiple times in the Civil Lines area in August 2021. Two imprisoned gangsters from the infamous Gogi gang were arrested in connection with the case, along with an assailant.
The Delhi Police, in the course of their investigation, discovered that the murder was orchestrated by the Gogi gang and Pahal to exact “revenge” since Gupta was believed to have connections with rival gang Tillu Tajpuria gang.
According to the police, Pahal is a history-sheeter with a long list of criminal charges, including multiple cases of murder, robbery, and extortion. In 2021, Pahal and his accomplices had allegedly thrown chilli powder at a Delhi Police team to facilitate the escape of gangster Kuldeep Mann from their custody. Mann, also known as Fajja, was later killed in a police encounter in West Delhi.
Pahal had previously been a promising boxer and had competed in various state and national championships before quitting the sport.
