<![CDATA[New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Tuesday raided and arrested 5 suspects for the supply and manufacture of illegal firearms. The raid was conducted near Singhu border. During the raid the police claim to have recovered 84 pistols and raw materials used in manufacturing firearms. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that the accused namely Mohd Shaidulla aged 37, Nasim aged 25, Mohd Shabir aged 32, Mohd Intiaz aged 29, and Mohd Obayed aged 33 were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday after a brief shoot-out. The accused Shaidulla and Furkan run an illegal firearms manufacturing unit in Meerut. They procure raw materials from Bihar’s Munger to make pistols and sell them in Delhi-NCR, the police said. Special Cell detectives said they have raided several modules that supplied firearms, in which the weapons were supplied from Bihar to Delhi via Meerut. Mr. Yadav said that it was recently brought to our notice that manufacturers or dealers of illegal arms, in order to evade apprehension, have set up firearm manufacturing factories in Meerut. They have started manufacturing firearms by using skilled labour and bringing raw materials from Munger adding that surveillance was mounted on the alleged gunrunners. On Monday, the police received a piece of confidential information that two members of one such syndicate would deliver a consignment late night near Singhu border. Accordingly a trap was laid by the police and two persons in a car were arrested. Mr. Yadav added saying that a search led to the recovery of 13 pistols from beneath the driver’s seat and 52 pistols from a secret cavity created in boot by covering the space for stepney. In the meantime, a raid was conducted at Furkan’s house in Meerut, where illegal weapons were allegedly being manufactured by Shabir, Intiaz, and Obayed. During the raid the police seized 19 pistols, springs, barrels and magazines, among other materials, from the house. Shaidulla has been in the business for over 15 years and has been supplying to Furkan for the last five years, the police said. While Nasim was tempted by Shaidulla to supply arms, the other three were brought in as labourers at Rs.2, 000 per firearm, they added.]]>
