New Delhi: The Delhi Police, after a brief encounter arrested an accused who was part of a gang and who is an expert in shooting in the early hours of Thursday. During the shoot-out, a bullet hit the accused, the police said.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that the accused has been identified as Raj Kumar alias Bhamba, 38 who is a resident of Bawana, and had a reward of Rs.1 lakh declared on his arrest. The accused was also wanted in six cases, including four murders, and was declared a proclaimed offender.
The police said that they received a confidential piece of information that the accused, Raj Kumar would be arriving to Prahaladpur Road from Rohini side around 5a.m. in order to meet an associate. Following this information, a trap was laid.
Mr. Yadav said that at 5.05 a.m., a motorcycle was spotted by the police and was asked to stop. Instead, the rider of the two-wheeler tried to speed away. The police team gave him a chase and after which he left the bike and started running on foot.
The police asserted that Raj Kumar was asked to surrender, but he began firing at the police party. The Police team also retaliated the fire in the line of self-defense and to deter the criminal. One bullet hit the right leg of the accused due to which he was brought down and was arrested by the police team; the DCP said adding that a semi-automatic pistol was recovered from his possession.
When the police was interrogating Raj Kumar, he allegedly confessed to the police that he had borrowed money from Neeraj Bawana’s brother Pankaj and because he could not return it, he started working for them and committed murders and extortion. The gang was named after Neeraj Bawana.
The police said that the accused, Raj Kumar was involved in the murder of the members of their rival, Nitu Dabodia gang. The persons murdered by Raj kumar were Pradeep alias Bhola in 2014, Rajesh Durmut and Vinod alias Bablu in 2017 and Amit in 2018.
