New Delhi: The graph of crime in the country’s capital Delhi has been increasing continuously. At the same time, Delhi Police is running many operations to reduce the increasing crime. Whereat present the most discussion is about the North-East district of Delhi. This is the district where there were protests against CAA-NRC and then there were riots, in which more than 50 people lost their lives. In this district, Operation Ankush was started to rein in the criminals, which has been successful so far.
Operation Ankush was started by Mr. Sanjay Kumar Sen, DCP of North-East District. The main objective of which was to catch the criminals of the district who had created fear in the area. Taking police action, those miscreants were arrested and sent to jail. According to the information received from the police, in the last year 2021, more than 18,000 criminals were arrested. These included 2,102 street criminals and 1,118 organized crimes. To prevent the crimes happening there, more than three lakh people were detained under the Delhi Police Act as a precaution.
A senior Delhi Police officer told the media that ‘Operation Ankush’ was launched at the ground level. Due to this, the gang war was put under control and the domination of the active gang ended. Taking action, the organized crime was busted and their kingpin was sent to jail. Street crime has also declined.
The police seized property worth crores of rupees that were looted. History sheets have been opened against more than 1,500 criminals in the district, out of which 103 were opened in 2021. 38 Declared Criminals (BCs) were traced in the area. A total of 278 BC were arrested for indulging in crimes. At the same time, 219 criminals who are indulging in continuous crimes are proposed to be arrested, out of which five have been cleared so far. Of these, 58 were also bound.
It is proposed to impose MCOCA against those accused of committing the organized crime. Apart from this, the police are working on the motive of crimes. Under this strategy, changes have been made in the Shastri Park police station area. It is proposed to install high masts and build boundaries on GT Road, Pushta Road, and Signature Bridge adjoining the Yamuna Khadar area. Similarly, a proposal has been sent to create a new police station in Nand Nagri Sub Division. All types of criminals are being closely monitored by the police.
