Tamil Nadu, Thiruvallur: An awareness program aimed at eradicating drug abuse and promoting social awareness among youth was conducted at Bazaar Street in Meenjur, Thiruvallur district. The event was organized in collaboration with various charitable and social organizations, including Athipattu Annai Anbalaya Charitable Organization, Srinivasan Memorial Charitable Trust, Nandanar Sewarasma Charitable Trust, Melur Agni Siragukal, Vanjivakkamkarkai Nandu Education Charitable Trust, Niyarak Aran Charitable Trust, Irukaramangal Piyasamoom, Emima Memorial Charitable Trust, Vazhudi Kaimedu Prabhanjam Samaya Kalvi Charitable Trust, Arul Master’s Bounce and Grooves Dance Academy, and Charles Master’s Spartan Gym.
The program commenced with a drumbeat performance by the Adithamizh Viduthi Movement, followed by a Bharatanatyam recital by Meenjur Guru Niruththa Kalaichudar and the Suresh group. Highlights of the event included a play titled “A Life Without Addiction is a Happy Life” by the Vazhuthigai Medu Prabhakam Social Education Trust, an awareness group dance by Master Arul Bounce & Grooves Dance Academy depicting the impact of addiction on families, and a Silambam performance by the Om Prakash team of the Sulai Subba Bhakthar Paramparai-1831 Biokalai National Silambam Group. Other plays, such as “The King of Addiction” by Vanjivakkamkarkee Nandu Education Trust, “Why This Addiction”, and “Addiction is the Path of Destruction” by the Chennai Iru Karangal Koonjom group, were also staged. Slogans against addiction were presented by Niyarak Aran Social Education Trust.
A unique fitness display by the Spartan Gym Charles Master team highlighted the theme “Rich Body, Healthy Mind, Sustainable Life”. A powerful speech by Rayasree, a fifth-grade student, captivated the audience.
The event, held at the Melur New Generation Agni Siragukal Grama Seva Center, was attended by several notable personalities, including Preethi of Srinivasan Memorial Charitable Trust, Tada Periyasamy of Sewarasma Foundation, Ilancheliyan of Adithamizh Viduthi Movement, Ni. Nelson, a Melur social activist, and Sheikh Ahmed, Thiruvallur East District Secretary of the Merchants’ Association. Participants were awarded souvenirs and medals in recognition of their contributions.
Meenjur Police Inspector Velumani emphasized the importance of collective efforts by traders, the public, and youth to eliminate drugs, including ganja, in the area. The program saw participation from government officials, political leaders, police officers, lawyers, teachers, students, business representatives, social activists, and people of all age groups, making it a successful community initiative.
