Telangana, Rachakonda: In a significant operation, the SOT LB Nagar Zone team, in collaboration with Meerpet police, dismantled an interstate drug racket by apprehending three drug peddlers involved in the transportation and sale of poppy straw. Acting on credible information, the team conducted the operation near Ashok Reddy Colony, Nadergul, under the Meerpet police limits.
During the raid, authorities seized 53.5 kg of poppy straw, three mobile phones, and other incriminating materials. The total value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be ₹1.25 crore. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Meerpet Police Station.
Accused Identified
The arrested individuals include:
Mangilal @ Mangilal Bishnoi aged 21 years, Rajasthan, a repeat offender with a prior NDPS case at Hayath Nagar Police Station.
Mangi Lal @ Mangi Lal Dhaka aged 25 years, Rajasthan.
Bhira Ram aged 25 years, Rajasthan.
In addition, the police identified:
Pintu @ Mohan Singh of Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, has been identified as the source.
Shanker Lal resident of BN Reddy Nagar, native of Barmer, Rajasthan and Sharvan resident of Karimnagar, native of Barmer, Rajasthan, has been identified as receivers and peddlers. Efforts are underway to apprehend them.
Modus Operandi
The accused, originally from Rajasthan, were engaged in steel railing work and agriculture but turned to drug peddling to overcome financial difficulties. They sourced the narcotic substance from Pintu @ Mohan Singh in Madhya Pradesh at lower prices and transported it to Hyderabad using public transport such as buses, trains, and lorries. The contraband was then sold at inflated prices to local buyers.
Previous Offense
Mangilal Bishnoi and associates had previously been arrested in 2023 for smuggling heroin from Rajasthan to Hyderabad. At that time, 7 grams of heroin were seized from their possession, and a case was registered under the NDPS Act.
About Poppy Straw
Poppy straw, classified as a narcotic under the NDPS Act, is the husk remaining after opium extraction. It contains small quantities of morphine and can produce toxic effects if consumed in large amounts. It is commonly mixed with water or tea to extract its alkaloids for sedative effects. Overdoses can lead to severe health complications, including respiratory depression, coma, and even death.

Authorities are working to track down the absconding accused, receivers, and consumers involved in the racket.

The arrests were made under the direct supervision of Mr. G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, and the guidance of Mr. K. Muralidhar, DCP, SOT LB Nagar-Maheshwaram, along with the SOT LB Nagar and Meerpet police teams.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Rachakonda Police to combat narcotics trafficking and ensure public safety.
