Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati: The Government of Andhra Pradesh has launched the Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) to combat the drug menace. Emphasizing community involvement, the initiative urges mothers to act as brand ambassadors & safeguard homes from drugs & protect children. In response to incidents like the arrest of 17 students in Guntur, the government is cracking down on cannabis cultivation and trafficking using advanced surveillance. A toll-free helpline (1972) ensures informant confidentiality. Strict training, asset seizures for major offenders & public awareness campaigns are key enforcement strategies.
EAGLE’ headquarters will be in Amaravati, with District Narcotics Control Cells in all 26 districts and five proposed special courts. With 459 personnel, EAGLE will focus on research, surveillance, training, awareness, and a state task force to curb drug-related crimes and promote public health.
