<![CDATA[Eight government employees have been arrested when they were allegedly found gambling on the residential premises of Kanpur Divisional Commissioner, after the official himself lodged a complaint against them, police said on Saturday. The accused are the staff of the senior district officials with whom Commissioner Mohammad Iftikharuddin was chairing a meeting in his camp office at his residence last evening, they said. They were arrested after the Commissioner himself called up the police when he got information that the employees were involved in gambling, police said, adding Rs 13,000 in cash, a deck of cards and a mobile have been recovered from them. "The Commissioner was chairing a meeting with administrative officers at his official residence when he was informed that some employees were gambling at a secluded spot on the premises. The Commissioner then informed us and a police team sent to nab them," Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur said. Those arrested have been identified as driver of Commissioner Iftikharuddin's escort vehicle Ramesh Yadav, drivers of Chief Engineer of Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) Subhas Kamal and Mohammad Ali, driver of a KDA engineer Jitendra Yadav, Deputy CMO's driver Pratap Singh, Cook of District Magistrate Kesar Singh, sweeper Nirmal Valmiki and a private photographer Sunil Singh. They have been taken into custody and orders given to initiate a departmental inquiry against them, he said.]]>
