Chhattisgarh, Raigarh: Pusaur police, acting on a tip-off, arrested two smugglers dressed as sadhus on April 8 while they were allegedly searching for buyers to sell illegal ganja near Teen Tarai pond in Pusaur village. The accused were caught red-handed with four kilograms of ganja, valued at approximately ₹40,000.
The operation was led by Inspector Ramkinkar Yadav following information received from an informer. A team comprising Assistant Sub-Inspector Umashankar Vishwal and other police personnel swiftly reached the location, cordoned off the area, and apprehended the suspects.
The accused have been identified as Balaji Thanapati (32), a resident of Sonaribeni, Subaliya, Sonpur district (Odisha), and Sudarshan Das (32), a resident of Bashivat, Vrindavan, Mathura district (Uttar Pradesh). Both were unable to produce any valid documentation for the ganja in their possession.
A case (Crime No. 86/2025) has been registered under Section 20(B) of the NDPS Act. In addition to the seized ganja, police confiscated a Yamaha motorcycle (registration number UP 85 BW 6661) used in the smuggling operation. The total value of the seized property stands at ₹1.9 lakh.
The accused have been produced in court and remanded to judicial custody. This operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Divyaang Patel and City SP Akash Shukla, with commendable efforts from Inspector Ramkinkar Yadav, ASI Umashankar Vishwal, Umashankar Nayak, Head Constable Kalyan Kanwar, and Constables Tariq Anwar and Mahesh Chauhan.
The successful crackdown has reinforced Pusaur Police’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, sending a strong message to those involved in the illegal trade.
