Hyderabad: Multizone-1 Inspector General Mr. AV Ranganath IPS issued a warning that strict action will be taken against moneylenders who harass people. He noted that the authorities have become aware of instances where some moneylenders are imposing high-interest loans on people and subsequently harassing them. On Sunday, Ranganath responded to complaints about individuals being coerced into surrendering house and farm documents for failing to pay off debts.
District SPs carried out searches on the premises of individuals and organizations operating usury and finance businesses within the Multizone-1 districts and police commissionerates. The IG’s office released a press statement regarding these operations. A substantial amount of cash was confiscated from moneylenders’ residences and businesses during the raids.
Police also seized gold, valuable documents, and cheques. The funds and items seized will be handed over to the relevant authorities and the courts. These operations were conducted over the course of three days with the aim of ensuring justice for the victims.
