Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In connection with the 2017 murder of a man named Vetrivel (23), a resident of Pottal Colony South Street near Mukudal, the Tirunelveli District First Additional Sessions Court has sentenced five accused, including the victim’s wife, to life imprisonment.
According to police records, Vetrivel had married Isha, daughter of Isakki of Vembadi Street, Mannarkovil, in 2016. However, due to marital disputes, the couple began living separately. In 2017, Vetrivel was murdered in Pottal Colony, following which a case was registered by the Mukudal Police Station.
During the investigation, police arrested Isha, her mother Sudalai Madi (61), and relatives Seetharaman (43), Marimuthu (37), and Jagadish (32) in connection with the crime.
After a detailed trial, the Tirunelveli District First Additional Court delivered its verdict.
* Marimuthu and Jagadish were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 12 years imprisonment for other charges, and fined ₹17,000 each, with the sentences to run concurrently.
* Sudalai Madi, Isha, and Seetharaman were also sentenced to life imprisonment and fined ₹10,000 each.
The verdict brings closure to the long-pending case registered by the Mukudal Police in 2017.
