Rachakonda: In an ongoing drive against habitual offenders to create a sense of safety and security to the General Public within the limits of Commissionerate. C.P. Rachakonda invoked PD Act against five members of a gang of habitual wire theft offenders and detained them in the Central prison Cherlapally on 14-12 2021.
These five offenders hailed from Jangaon District and are relatives to each other. Earlier, they were doing electrical works like erecting poles, laying wires, cables, etc. on a daily wage basis, and thereby gained experience over cutting live lines from the poles. The five formed as a gang and hatched a plan to commit theft of Aluminum electrical wires in order to make quick money in a short period. In the beginning, they used to sell remnants of wires and started spending the sale proceeds for their lavish expenses. Later they used to commit theft of aluminum wire bundles from their working sites, sell them in bulk quantity in order to make quick money for their lavish life. In execution of their plan, they took Tata ace vehicle and Ashok Leyland vehicles from their known persons on a daily rental basis and used them to shift stolen booty such as aluminum wire bundles, power cables, electrical meters from the scene of the crime to their hidden places. After having gathered in bulk quantity of booty, they have shifted to Hyderabad and sold out the same to the unknown persons and thereby made easy money.
Since September 2021 so far, the accused committed as many as 7 wire theft offenses in the limits of Bibinagar. Bhongir. Bommalaramaram and Yadagirigutta police stations of Yadadri-Bhongir zone. They committed all 7 offenses in a quick succession of two months period. Acting on a tip-off, Bibinagar Police arrested the Gang members on 25-11-2021 and recovered total sale proceeds of stolen booty to an amount of Rs.8,25,000/- net cash and two auto trolley vehicles and two motor vehicles which were used for commission of offenses have also been seized from their possession.
As such, with a view to prevent them from committing such offenses and to preserve public order, the Preventive Detention orders under the provisions of the PD Act are invoked against them by Mr. Mahesh M. Bhagwat. I.P.S., Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda and detained in the Central Prison, Cherlapally on 14-12-2021.
The accused arrested have been identified as Dharavath(24), Mudavath Thirupathi(24), Venkatesh(23), Korra Lokesh(21), Kora Rakesh(19) all of Janagam district.
