Pune: The Pune district administration has established 135 flying squad teams and 129 Static Surveillance Teams (SST) to monitor and deter violations of the model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha elections, as directed by the Election Commission of India. These teams will vigilantly oversee the movement of illicit goods, bribes, cash, weapons, and antisocial elements within their respective areas. Additionally, measures such as appointing coordination officers at the district level, along with expenditure teams at the constituency level, are in place to ensure strict expenditure control. These efforts are supplemented by support from various teams including video survey and inspection teams; media control committees, and grievance redressal units. Collaboration with the Income Tax and state excise departments further enhances the effectiveness of monitoring election expenses. All public events and political campaigns will be recorded, aiding the expenditure teams in verifying candidates’ declared expenses. Assistant expenditure inspectors, drawn from various central government departments, assist in ensuring the accuracy of expenditure verification processes at the constituency level. The district election administration maintains control over candidates’ expenditure registers and shadow observation records to uphold transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
