Dindigul: In Dindigul, following directives from the District Forest Officer, a surprise vehicle check was carried out at the Sirumalai Check Post by the Sirumalai Forest Guard and forest officials, based on confidential information provided by the Forest Conservancy Officer. During the inspection, a Meenakshi Estate supervisor transporting wild boar on a two-wheeler was apprehended and questioned, revealing the involvement of a total of 11 individuals in wild boar hunting.
In response to this discovery, the District Forest Officer issued an unprecedented fine of Rs. 5.06 lakh. This marks the first instance of such a substantial penalty being imposed on wild boar hunters in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, an investigation is underway to determine whether the use of a gun was involved in the hunting, as capturing wild boars with nets is prohibited.
