Ariyalur: Venkatesan, a building contractor residing on New Market Street in Ariyalur, fell victim to a fraud scheme. Two months ago, a man named Nagaraj, who introduced himself as Murugan, approached Venkatesan claiming to be a wire dealer offering construction wires at a significantly reduced price. Trusting Nagaraj’s words, Venkatesan placed an order for the wires. However, instead of delivering the entire order, the accused arranged for a partial delivery, instructing the cart carrying the remaining wires to proceed elsewhere. Nagaraj collected a payment of Rs. 1,46,500/- from Venkatesan and promptly switched off his cell phone.
Venkatesan realizing that he had been deceived. In response, Venkatesan lodged a complaint at Khairabad police station. Acting on the District Superintendent of Police, Mr. K. Perozkhan Abdullah’s directives, a special team led by Police Inspector Ms. Vani from the Cyber Crime Unit was formed to apprehend the culprit. The team traveled to Theni district, where they successfully arrested Nagaraj (38) from Pudu Colony Street, Subbaraj Nagar, Podinaikkanur. Subsequently, Marimuthu was taken into custody and brought to the police station. A case was registered, followed by an investigation, during which a car (01), two-wheelers (03), and four cell phones (04) were seized from Nagaraj. He was then presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
