Thrissur City, Kerala: In a significant judgment, the Fourth Additional District Court, Thrissur, sentenced an accused in a ganja possession case to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹40,000.
The accused, Shaji alias “Bombay Shaji,” a native of Kunnappilly near Devarajagiri Temple in Chalakudy, was found guilty of possessing 3 kg of ganja intended for sale. The verdict was delivered by Judge T.P. Anil.
The case dates back to July 14, 2013, when the accused was apprehended at a bus stop along the National Highway at Pattikkad, following a tip-off. The arrest was carried out by shadow police along with officers from Peechi Police Station.
The investigation was completed and charge sheet filed by Ollur Circle Inspector N.K. Surendran. The prosecution examined the evidence and arguments presented by Special Public Prosecutor M.K. Girish Mohan, who emphasized the seriousness of drug-related offences and the accused’s prior involvement in similar crimes.
Considering the gravity of the offence and its impact on society, particularly on youth, the court awarded the sentence as per law.
Police officials stated that the verdict reinforces strong action against drug trafficking and serves as a deterrent to those involved in narcotic offences.
