Ghaziabad: On Thursday, a 55-year-old man and his wife were allegedly stabbed and robbed in their Indirapuram home over a financial dispute. On Friday, police apprehended the mason couple suspected of carrying out the attack, Asmit Kumar, 23, and his wife Kavya, 22. The suspects had fled with cash and jewelry worth ₹7 lakh but were later booked for attempt to murder and robbery.
During interrogation, the arrested couple revealed that the contractor who had hired them for the victims’ house work had paid them less than what was agreed upon. This prompted the couple to visit the victims on Thursday. Asmit also wanted the couple to employ his wife as a domestic help.
The duo was hired by contractor Sri Ram to fix a leakage problem about 20 days prior at the victims’ house in Abhay Khand I. On Thursday, they visited the couple at around 1:30 pm when they were alone at home. A disagreement over payment ensued, resulting in Kumar hitting the husband with a hammer and stabbing both victims in the abdomen with a knife found in the house.
After injuring the couple, Kumar looted cash worth ₹83,000 and jewelry worth around ₹6 lakh before locking the house from outside and fleeing. The injured couple then called their neighbors, who rescued them. The victims are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is said to be stable.
Fortunately, the police were able to recover the stolen items. Vivek Chandra Yadav, the deputy commissioner of police (DCP – trans Hindon), stated that the suspects were arrested from Indirapuram. The police were able to track down the suspects quickly, thanks to CCTV footage that showed the couple entering and exiting the victim’s house.
