Hyderabad, Telangana, May 24, 2025: The sleuths of the Mehdipatnam Police Station Crime Team apprehended a habitual pocket-picker involved in a gold chain theft case and successfully recovered stolen gold ornaments weighing approximately 45 grams.
The accused, identified as Smt. Hathagale Sanjana (20 years), W/o Hathagale Deva, a daily wage labourer residing near Ghoshaghat School, Jagannath Temple Lane, Mangar Basthi, Afzalsagar, Hyderabad, was arrested on 24.05.2025 at 08:00 hours at Vijaynagar Colony while attempting to sell the stolen jewelry.
A case was registered at Mehdipatnam Police Station, and the accused was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Case Background:
On 22.05.2025 at 17:30 hrs, a complaint was lodged by Smt. Gadili Hyma, W/o B. Bhaskara Rao, aged 25 years, a housewife from Vikarabad District (native of Turkapeta, Moolasowlapuram, Srikakulam District). She reported that on 20.05.2025, while traveling from Srikakulam to Hyderabad with her husband and child via V. Kaveri Travels, she alighted at Gandhibhavan Metro Station and later travelled via metro and Rapido auto to Mehdipatnam Bus Stand. At around 08:40 AM, upon boarding an RTC bus to Vikarabad, she noticed that the zip of her handbag had been opened, and the following gold ornaments were missing:
- Gold Chain – 15 grams
- Laxmidevi Locket – 9 grams
- Anjaneyaswamy Locket – 2 grams
- One Pair of Earrings – 5 grams
- Gold Biscuit – 24 grams
Total Stolen Property: 55 grams of gold
Despite searching at Mehdipatnam bus stop, the ornaments were not recovered at the time.
Investigation & Recovery:
Upon receiving credible information regarding a woman attempting to sell suspicious gold ornaments, the crime staff of Mehdipatnam PS swiftly acted under the supervision of:

The accused Smt. Hathagale Sanjana was apprehended, and during interrogation, she confessed to the theft. A total of 45 grams of gold ornaments were recovered from her possession.
