Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal: Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel assured the families of the martyrs that he, along with the people of the state, the police administration, and society as a whole, stands with them. He expressed his belief that the path to development can only be forged by maintaining an environment of peace, harmony, and brotherhood within society. Shri Patel acknowledged the Madhya Pradesh Police for setting new benchmarks in making the slogan of patriotism and public service truly meaningful. Beyond fulfilling their duties, they have also set high standards of social commitment through their exemplary work in public safety and service. He emphasized that an active police force in a democratic system forms the foundation of a strong society, and it is crucial for the police to adapt to changing circumstances. Shri Patel delivered these remarks during the Police Smriti Diwas program at the Shaheed Memorial Premises at Lal Parade Ground today.
He paid tribute to all the martyred police officers and personnel of both the country and the state. Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain and Additional Chief Secretary Home S.N. Mishra were also in attendance. Governor Patel stated that it is a matter of pride that the Madhya Pradesh Police is regarded as one of the finest forces in the country. The vigilance, sensitivity, and communication of the police play a critical role in making citizens feel safe. He further highlighted that the police are an integral part of society, and without their active involvement, the vision of development cannot be realized. Shri Patel commended the Madhya Pradesh Police for their prompt crime investigations and for ensuring that criminals are brought to justice.
Maintaining law and order is a significant responsibility for the police, and so is fostering coordination with the public. The Governor also applauded the efforts of the Madhya Pradesh Police in planting 1.25 lakh saplings in a single day, aligning with the government’s environmental protection initiative. He also acknowledged the establishment of police bands in every unit of the state, the construction of 25,000 homes under the Chief Minister Police Housing Scheme for police families, the creation of Women Police Stations, and the setup of 950 Women Help Desks across all districts—calling these commendable steps by the Madhya Pradesh Police.
This year, the government has allocated Rs 10,553 crore for the police department, a move Governor Patel believes will enhance the efficiency of the police force and significantly aid in crime control. He also praised the peace-loving people of the state, expressing hope that police personnel will be inspired by the sacrifice of their martyr colleagues, who gave their lives in the service of patriotism and public duty. He said that carrying forward this spirit of selfless service would be the true tribute to the fallen heroes.
Director General of Police Shri Sudhir Saxena added that Police Smriti Diwas is a day to honor the nation’s integrity. The sacrifice of the martyrs for the ideals of patriotism and public service will continue to guide them in their duties. He recalled the incident of 21st October 1959, when 10 jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred in a clash with the Chinese Army at an altitude of 16,000 feet in Hot Springs, Ladakh. This day is observed annually by all police units in their memory.
This year, 23 jawans of the Madhya Pradesh Police have sacrificed their lives in service to the nation, including Late Sub Inspectors Shri Ramesh Bhaskar, Vimal Tiwari, and Ramlal Azad; Late Assistant Sub Inspectors Shri Rajendra Singh Khichi, Mahendra Bagri, Govind Singh Chauhan, Kailash Chandra Sharma, Naresh Kumar Sharma, Santosh Kumar Singh, Maharaj Singh, and Sanjay Pandey; Head Constables Late Shri Shivpal Kaul, Shravan Kumar Rai, and Rakesh Kumar Thakur; Constables Late Shri Kranti Kumar Mishra, Manoj Kumrawat, Puran Lal Irpache, Pankaj Kumar Bhalavi, Uday Sengar, Tamsingh Maravi, Chandrabhan Singh, Upendra Rawat, and Ajay Vaskel. Shri Saxena assured their families that they will always remain part of the police family.
He stressed that peace and strong law and order are fundamental to a happy and prosperous life, and form the foundation of development. The police, working with efficiency and sensitivity, are playing a vital role in the creation of a developed Madhya Pradesh. He pledged that the police will continue to provide services with the same level of dedication in the future. The department, he added, is committed to ensuring the economic and social security of the martyrs’ families by offering assistance and facilities as per the rules.
During the program, senior and retired police officers paid tribute by laying floral wreaths to the solemn tunes of the police band. The honor roll was installed in the memorial fund, and the Martyr’s Memorial was saluted. The parade was led by Indian Police Service Officer Additional Superintendent of Police, Shri Ayush Gupta, with Assistant Commander of State Police Service, Shri Aditya Tiwari, serving as the parade’s second-in-command. The parade featured women platoons from district and special armed forces, men’s platoons from special armed forces and district police forces, a home guard platoon, a pall-bearer party, a color party, a police band platoon, horse-mounted units, and dog squad contingents. In conclusion, the Governor and senior officers met with the families of the martyrs.
