North and Middle Andaman: On March 28, 2024, the Baratang Police unit of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands swiftly and efficiently executed an operation, demonstrating their steadfast commitment to combating illicit activities. They successfully seized a significant quantity of illegal Handia near the Anganwadi Centre, Jarawa Creek, Baratang.
Taking prompt action, Sub-Inspector Sujit Bhattacharya, Officer-in-Charge of Baratang Police Station, along with a police team, conducted a raid and confiscated 60 kg of illicit Handia stored in 03 aluminum pots. The accused, Lagan Majhi, son of Late Krishna Majhi, aged 69 and employed as a private worker, residing in Nayadera, Baratang, was served a notice under Section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code for further legal proceedings. The seized items were brought to the Baratang Police Station, and a case under Excise Regulations was registered against the accused.
The entire operation was carried out under the vigilant supervision of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Rangat, and under the overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police of the North and Middle Andaman District.
