Chikkamagaluru: In response to the increased rainfall in Chikkamagaluru district, the Hon’ble District Collector has issued an order banning the movement of heavy vehicles weighing over 12,000 kilograms on all state highways and main district roads, effective from July 5, 2024. This precautionary measure aims to prevent damage to the road infrastructure and ensure the safety of the residents.
However, in violation of this order, nine timber lorries were intercepted and seized by authorities. These lorries were found transporting heavy loads within the jurisdiction of several police stations, including Koppa, Aldur, Mallandur, Balehonnur, and Jayapura. The unauthorized movement of these vehicles posed a significant risk to the already vulnerable road conditions.
The seized vehicles have been handed over to the Regional Transport Office (RTO), which will undertake the necessary legal proceedings against the violators. The RTO is expected to impose penalties and take appropriate action to enforce compliance with the district administration’s directive. This incident underscores the importance of adhering to regulations designed to protect public safety and infrastructure during adverse weather conditions.
